Music Video : Filming

     Filming
Today we actually didn’t film. We haven’t started filming at all in all honesty. Me and my partner already have most of the planning done. All we need to do now is to go out and actually film. The main reason we didn’t get to film because my partner and i were both unavailable to film over the weekend. While it is a requirement to blog about filming, my partner and i didn’t actually film so this blog is only for the grade. On our past project, the commercial, filming was a pretty smooth process. We went out into the field and just filmed stuff based of the storyboard and that was that. For this, the only difference is that now we are going to actually shoot off campus so both my partner and I are going to have to schedule a get together and film our video.
What we have planned is us meeting up at a nearby mall and film in a parking garage. This setting helps us create the tone we want to set for our music video. Both me and my partner are kind of disappointed that we didn’t get to film but its ok. We now have a big thanksgiving break that will give us the opportunity to film with worrying about school and homework and stuff. By doing this blog now we actually don’t have to write about our experiences filming and we just worry about completion. Our music video is going to be really cool. Due to the fact that we are filming off campus, this will give us the opportunity to film in cool places rather than our campus.
I’m really excited to start filming. Our footage should probably be done by next week and i hope its going to turn out as good as the last one. Im really proud of our commercial and hoping our next project can top it. As im looking at other people’s commercials and others ideas, we really hope that we can top what they are doing. Rather than getting a decent grade and getting the project over with, i want to strive for greatness. This class really means a lot to me. While we missed the opportunity to film last week, this week we are going to film for sure.

Ok im going to go to sleep now. Peace ✌️

Music Video : Storyboard

Storyboard
We are currently in the pre-production phase. Last blog i discussed the plan and development ideas of the music video. Before we begin filming we first must compose a storyboard. We don't want to waste anytime during the duration of this whole process. Lucas and I want a darker more mysterious feel to the music video. We want it to capture pain, depression, anxiety, and stress but with a good color scheme and flow. We kind of want it to release a euphoric feeling with a slightly psychedelic undertone to it. The subject has emotional and mental issues  which reflex on to the video.
The first twelve seconds are multiple jump cut shots of buildings and places that introduces the city vibe into the commercial. The fist twelve seconds will be filmed at different locations.

They will also be filmed at different times of day. Scene two, seconds thirteen to nineteen are a medium close up shot of half the subjects face and body shown. The subject is looking straight ahead with no emotions. behind the subject is a beautiful sky after the sunsets. We hope we can get a good shoot of the sky having an ocean blue look to it. We really want to execute that gloomy look we want.
Scene seconds twenty to twenty-seven will be over shoulder shots of society. People will be laughing, being happy, and talking. We hope scenes like this introduce the depression portion of the music video. Scene three, seconds twenty-eight to thirty-three will be the subject walking down a dark ally way or hall. We have to make sure we are cautious and safe throughout the whole process and we are still looking for the perfect location to film this scene.

Scene four, seconds thirty-four to forty will be a tracking shot of the subject running.
Once the subject stops running it will look confused as if it does not know where it is.
That will become scene fives part, seconds forty to forty-two will be a close-up dutch shot of the subject falling backwards which will be the transition of the next scene. Scene six, seconds forty-three to forty-four will be the subject in the bed sitting up. Scene seven, seconds forty-five to forty-seven will be a small pan of the subjects close-up. Scene eight, seconds forty-nine to fifty will be a close-up of the subject standing during the day and night showing how everything feels the same everyday, all the time. Scene nine, seconds fifty to 60 or one minute will be the subject standing in rain crying. Scene ten, minute 1:01 to 1:04 will be the subject over the shoulder shot looking at orange pill capsules. Scene eleven, minutes 1:05 to 1:08 is a medium shot of the subject dancing around finally being happy. Scene twelve, minutes 1:08-1:09 will be multiple jump shots of a close up of the subjects facial expressions. Scene thirteen will be the title of the song with the names of my partner and I.

Music Video : Planning

 Planning

Location : Me and my partner are planning to film in locations with minimal lighting to get a sad vibe. Most likely going to film in the Fort Lauderdale area. To catch the aesthetic of the video, we are going to film in locations that also catch the vibe. This is important.

Health and Safety: due to the fact that both me and my partner are both high school students, health and safety are both important factors in this project. Besides getting a good grade, both me and my partner's health are priorities. One way we are going to take account health and safety in this project is being aware of our surroundings and not go in dangerous areas.

Props: Props are very important when it comes to music videos. There isn’t any primary props we are going to use in our music video though. Due to the fact that we are going to tell a story with the music video and props aren’t going to be needed.

Costumes: For our costumes, we are going to be using normal street clothes. Obviously nothing too formal but nothing too casual. Just what a normal person would wear on the street. Jeans, hoodies, t-shirts, etc.

Schedule: The schedule is attached below...

New Project : Music Video

    Music Video

We just finished our final project for our commercial. This entire experience was pretty good overall. Our commercial for Vans was in my opinion was the best commercial I saw from the class. The things that worked for us very well is to not use the editing program that's offered here on campus. The program they use is just too slow to use and our computers aren't the best either. Instead we uploaded our footage on to Google Drive and just edited on our smart phones. This was a much faster process and due to the simplicity of smartphones, we were able to do things more than we thought possible. Another thing, while it is a requirement, story boarding did not work for our project. We made a story board but when we started to film, more ideas came into our head which made us stray away from our original storyboard. Other than that, our commercial was a success. Now we are transitioning into shooting our next project. This project is going to be a music video.

The song that we will choose for our music video is going to be Day n Nite by Kid Cudi. The reason we selected this song is due to the fact that its a good song overall. The song had no explicit language and just a really chill song. This song was very popular when it was released back in 2008. Its considered to be a part of the Rap/Hip-Hop genre. While this song already has a music video, we are going to take a different approach on the visuals. The music video for this song shows Kid Cudi, walking around in the city and drawings appear as if he were seeing it. This music video conveys the figurative aspect of the song, but I think my and my partner will take the lyrics more literal. The editing is very present in the actual music video and it features lots of tracking shots. Because me and my partner haven't really decided what our music video is going to feature exactly, I can't tell you what type of editing our video is going to have.

Rap/Hip-Hop is a common genre now in the 21st Century, because of this, there is now certain conventions that a Rap/Hip-Hop music video should have.

1. Costumes that are usually featured in Rap/Hip-Hop is designer clothes for men and minimal clothing for women to show wealth.

2. While lighting varies for each different music video, usual lighting is very bright and visible to clearly see every single thing in the music video.

3. Usually for the acting of a typical rap music video is just the artist of the song either lip-syncing his song or they sometimes hire actors to portray the message of the video.

4. Makeup for a typical rap music videos is very minimal or used to make the people in the videos look as natural as possible.

5. Props for a usual rap music video varies on the song. In reality, the props featured in the music video helps to portray the underlying message of the song.

6. Set design for a typical rap music video is usually somewhere exotic. This is done so rappers can show of their wealth and portrays to the audience, "Look at me, I'm at some cool place!"

While there are conventions in Rap/Hip-Hop music video, I doubt me and my partner will actually follow the conventions of the genre because, I don't usually enjoy watching these type of videos. So for our project we will stick to making a nicer music video.

Final Blog for Commercial

Final Blog

For the past week me and my partner attempted to use pinnacle studios to edit our footage. We’ve attempted for a while but the computer keeps getting stuck or just not opening. To avoid this, my partner has been editing on her phone with an app shes been using. I’ve been helping her out and giving creative feedback so we are almost about done with the editing process. This has been a really fun experience to edit and make a commercial that we actually shot.
The only downside is that our storyboard doesn’t 100% correlate with the commercial we’ve been editing. Our plan was to make the commercial look like its being played through a vintage computer and give it an old feel to the commercial. Turns out that firstly we don’t have access to a vintage computer and second, the footage doesn’t look the way we imagined being played from a computer. To substitute these 5 seconds that were meant for the old tv shot, we just added some highlights from our day of filming. The rest of the commercial correlates with the storyboard which is good.
To sum up, out commercial will officially be done in the next few days!  Our commercial won’t be 100% correlated with the story board but its still going to be great. Our commercial will feature me and my partner and us being cool around the FLHS campus.

Creative Critical Reflection for Final Task

This is my finished Creative Critical Reflection for my movie, La Venganza. It would have not made sense to cut down the video so I have up...
