Editing Blog : Fail

Editing Disappointment

Today we didn’t really do much in class. It started off by us sitting and waiting for any instructions. We’ve already started our story boards, our topic, and we’ve filmed most of our scenes. All that is left to do is to edit. I was excited to start editing but I was kind of disappointed when our teacher told us to write a blog after she told that the editing programs aren’t working. We had all of our files ready so today felt kind of like a waste of a day.
Instead of editing as planned, we uploaded the photos that we dumped on to the computer into Google Drive. We did this to easily access our footage from our phones instead of relying on the 2010 computers that they have here in our campus. Editing was supposed to start today. We probably would’ve started off by dragging all of our footage on to pinnacle studios and begin to organize. After that we probably start dropping clips on the track in chronological order. Then we would’ve began to cut down the clips and to start begin to start making our commercial look like our storyboard. After this we probably would’ve start to add effects and filters to give the commercial the vintage vibe we were looking for. To be honest, me and our partner need one more scene to finish the commercial. We haven’t picked out any music or done any type of voice overs because thats what we were planning on doing today. Today has been a disappointment.
To wrap up my thoughts, im kind of disappointed about the fact we couldn’t edit today. I hope our school figure out a way to fix the problem with the editing software.Im sure it was due to the fact that our computers are ancient. Probably the fact that the school internet is really bad so thats probably a reason why the editing software isn’t working. Well on Wednesday the computer software might work so i really hope we can being to edit. Editing should be really fun and a good way to lay down my ideas in the form of a video. Shooting footage on Thursday was fun so i hope editing is too.

Alright this is lucas, imma head out✌️

Filming Blog : Vans Commercial

Film Blog Experience 10/24/19

On Thursday, me and my partner filmed our scenes for our AICE Media Studies commercial project. Me and my partner went around our campus and we filmed various scenes for our commercial. Before we even begun filming, we received our equipment. We received a tripod, an SD card, and a camcorder. We also received a pass to go out on campus and film. Me and my partner had to sign a liability form to make sure we are responsible for the equipment that we received. Right after we went through the process of picking everything up, we headed to film our scenes.
We brought various props, a skateboard, a shoulder bad, and Vans apparel, to use in our commercial. After messing with the skateboard for around 5 min, we set up the tripod and began to film our first scene. The first scene consisted of me standing on top of a stairwell posing with the skateboard. After figuring out how to zoom, we zoomed into the shoe for the same shot. The next scene consisted of me and my partner hanging up the vans apparel on the railing on campus. We did this to create like a vintage kind of vibe. We did a pan to show all of the apparel that we brought for this commercial. Next we went to a place in my campus called the senior patio. We laid out all of the clothes we had and posed next to it for this next shot. Right after this we decided it’d be smart to film our title screen due to location. Our last scene was a person skating in front of a piece of art that we have located in campus. Before we did this a security guard in our school told us that we can’t skate through the campus and we realized we had all the footage we needed anyway. After this we headed back to our classroom.
This entire process took about an hour because we also filmed lots of extra shots that we may use for the commercial. This was a really fun learning experience to skate and to film in our campus because we had the opportunity to use unfamiliar equipment and learning more about it. After we finished filming, me and my partner checked all of the equipment back in the classroom and we started to “dump” our footage. We took out the SD card out of the camera and plugged that in the computer and saved all of our footage on the computer. We will continue to film some more shots that we need for our commercial on Monday. We will also continue to edit our commercial on Monday and on Wednesday. Overall, filming and producing a commercial is pretty entertaining and me and my partner will continue this experience on Monday.

Alright blog viewers, im gonna go to sleep, peace ✌️

Vans Commercial : Storyboard

Storyboard
Our commercial will start off by playing the first scene through a computer then zoom in into the actual footage. The footage that will be playing on the computer will be a long shot of a guy on top of a skateboard. After we will cut to a close up shot of  a Vans shoes on top of the skateboard. After this scene we will cut to a scene of the skater doing a trick and cut back and fourth of the trick to vans apparel. Last scene of the commercial will be a long shot of a person skating through the screen.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today in class we learned the basics of editing for our commercial project. Our teacher first explained to us that we can only use 1 computer for all of our editing because then it takes out all the risk of losing any footage that we may have recorded. Assuming we already recorded all the necessary footage, we first "dump" all of our raw footage from the SD card into the computer. She explained to us that we should make a separate folder to dump all of our footage into. After we gather all of our footage, its time to import all of our media into the editing software. In this class we use Pinnacle Studios to edit most of our projects. We import our footage by clicking "Import" on the top left of the screen and we select all of the media that we may want to use for our project. After this we can start editing.
To begin, we first learned about how Pinnacle Studios works. We learned that this software has layers and that you can move media from one "track" to another and it will determine which media will show on the screen first. All of your media is on the top is considered "raw footage" because they haven't been edited or modified. You move your raw footage onto the tracks and then from there you can cut, split, copy, delete, and really anything you want to do to your footage. For me, I thought of this as the time to get creative and really do anything you want to do in order to make your project look good. You can add titles by clicking the button "T" to add text. You can saturate your footage to make it look like your footage was being shot during the night. You can add music by converting Youtube music and converting it to mp3. Really you can do anything you want to do. After you feel like your project is finished, you export your footage. Our teacher told us that we should put it on the highest quality and then  convert our footage to .MPEG4 which is a video file. Last thing she told is after the project finishes, don't close the software right away but check if your footage exported correctly.
I personally have experience with editing but this lesson was a great refresher. I love to edit and I like to really do whatever I want with my footage to do whatever i want to do. When I do my project I will incorporate all of the stuff i learned in this lesson. I personally am really excited to start filming and editing in this course and to put my ideas that i have in my head to work.

Alright this is Lucas, Imma head out.

Vans Commercial Planning

Planning is a crucial factor in making this commercial.

Props we will use for this commercial are
-Vans Apparel (Shoes, Shirts, Belts, etc)
-A Skateboard

Costumes me and my partner will use will be "Skate Apparel" and Vans Clothing to advertise the clothing.

The Schedule is as followed
-Planning 10/10
-Making the storyboard 10/14
-Shooting the scenes 10/21
-Editing/Post production 10/23

Location
Me and my partner will be filming on campus at Fort Lauderdale High, in front of the auditorium to shoot our skate scenes.

Backup Plan
If it starts to rain we can shoot on different locations around campus underneath shelter/roofing to not ruin any equipment.

If me or my partner doesn't show up to the day that we film, we will get somebody to help us film our scenes.

This is the planning to our commercial project

Research Blog : Commercial Convetions

For our commercial my partner and I are doing a commercial on the popular shoe brand Vans. Usually in Vans commercial they feature people skateboarding or that type of vibe because their shoes are intended for skating. Vans is an American manufacturer which typically sells shoes, clothes and accessories intended for skating. So in a Vans commercial you can expect people skating and showing off their Vans apparel.

Introductory

Hello this is lucas and this is my new blog.
Over the course of this class, I will be writing a blog post every so often and i will be writing about my life and this class. I will put lots of effort in this blog to really make sure that its nice and presentable. (and a passing grade) So I hope who ever is reading this enjoys what they are reading.

I was born on 11/21/2004 in Santiago, Chile. I lived there for about 6 years until my parents decided to move to the United States. I had a hard time adapting to the change in language but I later became well adjusted with English. Moving to the U.S. has definitely changed my life for the better because the U.S. offers opportunity that Chile just couldn't give. Now I live in a nice neighborhood because when my parents came here they came to work hard to give me and my sister a good opportunities in life.

Now being in high school, I joined the school's marching band and I am currently in the percussion section. I like to play guitar, be with my friends, play video games, and I like to play the drums. I've met lots of good friends here in the U.S. and hope my life continues to get better.

Alright, Im gonna go now, Peace✌️
